The Aurum Bariatric Riser Recliner Chair is a specialist seating solution developed for larger users who require a high level of support, comfort and assistance with everyday positioning. Built for demanding bariatric care, it combines a substantial 318kg (50 st) safe working load with powered rise and recline functions, pressure-relieving seating and practical features for carers.

One of the Aurum's key advantages is the extensive choice of seat widths. Seven options are available from 65cm to 95cm, allowing the chair to be selected more closely around the user's body size rather than relying on a single standard bariatric seat. A 46cm seat height and 48.5cm seat depth are provided as standard, creating a consistent seating configuration while allowing the width to be chosen to suit the individual.

Dual motor operation provides greater control over positioning than a single motor riser recliner. The backrest and leg section can be operated independently, allowing the sitting and reclining position to be adjusted according to the user's comfort and support requirements. The powered rise function also assists the transition towards standing for users who are able to weight bear.

Particular attention has been given to the strength of the leg section, which uses a double support system and has a separate safe working load of 100kg (15.7 st). This reinforced arrangement provides the additional support required from a chair intended for bariatric use.

The Aurum has also been designed around assisted transfers. Clearance around and beneath the chair and lifting mechanism allows access for a compatible mobile hoist, giving carers greater flexibility when transferring users who cannot independently move into or out of the chair. This makes the chair particularly practical in care homes, hospitals and other environments where different transfer methods may be required.

Four heavy duty castors allow the complete chair to be repositioned when necessary, rather than treating it as a permanently static piece of furniture. Brakes on the rear castors secure the chair once it has been moved into the required position, combining manoeuvrability with stability during use.

Pressure care can be matched to the user's requirements. A medium-risk visco memory foam seat cushion is supplied as standard, providing pressure redistribution alongside everyday comfort. A high-risk Vita-Gel cushion can be selected as an alternative where a higher level of pressure care is required. Both cushion options are available across all seven seat widths.

For professional care environments, the upholstery is finished in waterproof, infection-resistant vinyl. The wipe-clean surface makes routine cleaning more straightforward and helps the chair fit into established infection control procedures.

With its heavy duty construction, individually selected seat width, dual motor positioning, pressure care options and mobile hoist compatibility, the Aurum is more than a conventional bariatric riser recliner. It is intended to provide a configurable seating and transfer solution for users whose size, mobility or care requirements make standard riser recliner chairs unsuitable.
