Bath Mats

Water, soap and shampoo can make the bottom of a bath particularly slippery. A non-slip bath mat creates a more secure surface, providing additional grip when getting into the bath, sitting down, standing up or stepping out.

This can be reassuring for older people, those with reduced balance or mobility, and anyone who feels less confident using a slippery bath. A mat can also complement other bath safety aids such as grab rails and bath seats.

It largely depends on how much of the bath floor you want to cover. Standard bath mats provide grip across the main bathing area, while the longer and extra-long options in this range extend protection over a greater proportion of the bath.

Before ordering, measure the flat internal area of your bath and compare it with the dimensions of the mat. This also helps ensure the chosen design can sit properly without bunching or curling at the edges.

No. Although the range includes traditional rubber bath mats, there are also soft foam designs for people who prefer a more cushioned surface. This gives you a choice between different materials and textures depending on what feels most comfortable underfoot or when sitting in the bath.

Individual designs vary, so it's worth checking the product information if material, softness or a particular type of surface is important to you.

Yes. Among the different styles available is a full-length bath mat with an integrated pillow. This combines a non-slip bathing surface with cushioned support for the head, making it a useful alternative to having a separate bath mat and bath pillow.

Full-length designs can also provide more extensive coverage than a conventional mat, which may be preferable for people who want a larger protected area inside the bath.

Some bath mats in the range have anti-microbial properties designed to help inhibit the growth of bacteria and other microbes on the mat. This can be a useful hygiene feature in an item that is regularly exposed to warm and damp conditions.

It doesn't remove the need for normal cleaning, however. The mat should still be cared for according to its individual instructions and allowed to dry properly between uses.

Suction cups are designed to attach to a suitable smooth bath surface and help stop the mat shifting during use. They may be less effective on textured, uneven or damaged surfaces where the cups cannot form a secure seal.

When using a suction-cup bath mat, position it flat against the bath and check that it is firmly attached before getting in. It's also worth checking the suction cups regularly for soap residue or dirt that could affect their grip.

Many rubber bath mats feature holes that allow water to move freely around and through the mat rather than becoming trapped across its surface. This helps the mat drain effectively during and after bathing.

Good drainage can also make the mat easier to rinse after use. Once bathing is finished, removing or lifting the mat to allow both it and the bath surface underneath to dry can help with ongoing cleanliness and maintenance.
