The Invacare Softform Premier MaxiGlide Mattress is a high specification pressure reducing mattress developed for users at very high risk of pressure ulcer development. Designed specifically for use with electric profiling beds, it incorporates an innovative glide mechanism that allows the mattress to move with the bed frame while the user remains comfortably supported. This significantly reduces shear and friction forces, which are known contributors to skin breakdown and tissue damage.

The mattress works on two independent sliding levels. The lower base section conforms to the profiling movements of the bed, while the upper surface remains stable beneath the user. This design helps maintain correct posture and comfort during bed adjustments, while also reducing the physical strain associated with repositioning. Pressure redistribution is delivered through a deep contoured insert pad made from castellated keyhole cut foam cells, which move independently to maximise body contact area and spread weight more evenly.

Encased in a multi stretch polyurethane cover, the mattress surface closely follows the contours of the foam cells, reducing rucking and minimising friction at the skin interface. The cover is vapour permeable to allow heat and moisture to escape, while remaining fully waterproof to protect against fluid ingress. High frequency welded seams and a concealed zip flap support infection control and hygiene requirements. As the mattress does not require turning or rotating, manual handling risks for carers are significantly reduced.

With a Waterlow suitability of 20+, the Softform Premier MaxiGlide is appropriate for users assessed as being at very high risk of pressure ulcers. Its modular construction allows individual components to be replaced if required, helping extend product life and protect long term investment in demanding care environments.
